What is a Protection Order?

A protection order is an order obtained from the court that prohibits the perpetrator from making contact with the victim/survivor and can help increase safety.  A protection order can forbid a perpetrator from being within 500 feet, show up at locations identified in the order (such as home, school, place of employment), call, text, email or contact the protected person via the internet, social media sites or a third party and more.  A protection order can help hold perpetrators of violence accountable for their actions.  Violating a protection order is a crime.  A Teen Advocate can help you filing for a protection order and be with you throughout the court process.
